I have recently discovered that some alarm systems rely on old information and outdated customer needs. As soon as I became aware of this, I started checking out shopper and industry reviews for various systems.  This also helped me pick a system that has a high rating and best suits my needs.  That was a much better method than the one my neighbor used to pick his system.  He personally tested the response time of his company by burglarizing his own home and then wound up paying a huge fine for the false alarm.  He much preferred this to the system he had where he pressed the alarm test button and nothing, absolutely nothing happened. He found this to be incredibly frustrating.  I thought he might actually be going crazy.  I finally took pity on him and shared my information with him, of course stressing the importance of picking his own needs
